Would anyone wandering around in lower Manhattan in 1736 have imagined that the six-bed facility within the Alms House would grow to become a world-class medical institution in a premier city?

So much a part of New York City's growth and prominence is tied to its growing and changing populations and the work they do to build the city. And so much of Bellevue's growth is due to its service to the populations which make New York .

The history of New York is intertwined with the history of medical accomplishments and the social changes that made them accessible to New Yorker.
